Review: Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire

Title: Beautiful Disaster
Author: Jamie McGuire
Publication: August 14, 2012
Publisher: Simon & Suhuster
Source: Publisher/Author
Genre: Romance
Audience: 17+

Synopsis: Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn't drink or swear, and she has the appropriate number of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance from the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.

Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby wants—and needs—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.

My Thoughts: This is an intense, emotional read and I enjoyed every minute of it. Travis and Abby are meant for each other. They each have enough emotional baggage to fill an entire room and deep beneath the surface there is more to each of them. I love that Abby doesn't take any mess from Travis and strives hard not to be like the other girls at school when it comes to Travis.

I was able to see through Travis and his stunts pretty early on in the book. It's pretty clear that Travis has issues with women but the why and how kept me intrigued  Travis' ability to be himself with Abby is refreshing.

I had a couple of complaints one is I find it hard to believe that Abby is that naive about Travis' feelings toward her and second, that Eastern University seems more like high school. One reason for this is that Eastern seems to be a small university. Other than that this is a must read but it is not for the faint hearted.

  1. I agree with you about the small university thing, but I didn't have much to go on since I never hung out on campus with friends during college. I just went to class and hung out off campus. But, this book was probably one of my favorite books I have read in a long long time, even though I held off reading it, until just before Walking Disaster came out. Great review.

  3. I don't know what to do with this one. I am interested in it, but I have heard so many not great things about it. On the other hand, I have heard really good things. I don't know what to do. Maybe one day.... We shall see
