What other Bloggers are Saying:
“Give Me Reason is a story full of heart, pain, doubt and learning to trust again. This story is about a woman who doesn't immediately run off with the man who offers her the world. She has seen the ugly in the world and trusting someone again isn't a price she is willing to pay." - Emily, TheSUBCLUBbooks

“This book will elicit a lot of emotional reactions while reading, you may want to buckle up, cause it's quite a ride. A ride that leaves you scatter brained, your heart aching, pounding, trying to catch your breath, and trying to figure out WTH is going to happen next???? The writing is brilliant and it flows wonderfully. There is an unexpected current running throughout the story, it simmers just below the surface. It will draw you in, and make you quirk your eyebrow.” - Angie - FanGirl Book Blog Review
“Vivienne and Mikah's story is intense, captivating and unforgettable. Their story is honest and gritty.” - Brooke

“Zoey Derrick had me within the first two pages. Her characters are alive and completely relateable, likeable and down-right loveable. I empathize, I cheer, I fear, I love with them. It takes a good solid book with a solid story and direction to get a hold of me, not that it matters, so to me for this book to grab right out the gate like this, AMAZING!” -  Barb - Amazon Review

Excerpt: Eversea by Natasha Boyd

Title: Eversea
Author: Natasha Boyd
Publication: June 10th 2013
Audience: New Adult

Amazon|B&N|Goodreads

Synopsis: • An orphaned small-town southern girl, burdened by responsibility and stuck in time.

• A Hollywood A-list mega-star, on the run from his latest scandal and with everything to lose.

• A chance encounter that leads to an unlikely arrangement and epic love affair that will change them both forever.

When his co-star and real-life girlfriend is caught cheating on him with her married and much older director, A-list hottie, Jack Eversea, finds himself in sleepy Butler Cove, South Carolina. Jack hopes the sultry southern heat in this tiny coastal Lowcountry town will hide him not only from the tabloids and his cheating girlfriend, but his increasingly vapid life and the people who run it.  He doesn’t count on meeting Keri Ann Butler.

Keri Ann has relied on herself so long, dealing with her family’s death and the responsibilities of keeping up her family’s historic mansion, that boys and certainly the meager offering of eligible boys in Butler Cove, have never figured into her equation.  But fate has other plans.  Suddenly face to face with the man who played the movie role of her favorite fictional character, Jack has Keri Ann yearning for everything she has previously avoided ... and Jack must decide whether this funny, sassy girl is worth changing his life for, before his mistakes catch up to him.

Eversea is a FINALIST in the Winter Rose Unpublished Contest for 2013

Excerpt:
Jazz grabbed a poker from the fireplace, and we both skidded on sock feet to the front door. I looked out of the peephole, but with no lights on I couldn’t really see a thing.
“I can’t see anything,” I whispered, and then jumped back as another round of banging started.
“Keri Ann?” Jack’s voice shouted over the wind and rain.
“Oh my God.” I mouthed to Jazz.
Her eyes were wide.
Do you think he got my message?”
“Shit, I don’t know,” she whispered back, her shoulders hunching up.
“Keri Ann? Please ... please open the door. I really need to talk to you.”
What the heck was he doing out there in the rain? Obviously, I was going to have to let him in. I could feel mortification and it’s crimson tide crawling up my chest to my neck.
Jazz shrugged with an apologetic ‘this is your mess, I have no clue how to help you here’ look on her face.
Thanks!” I hissed at her.
“Keri Ann! Open the Goddamn door ... please?” Jack’s voice broke over the last word and my shoulders slumped.
Jazz rolled her eyes.
I opened the door as a huge gust of wind blew in and wrenched it out of my hands. It swung back hard banging against the wall. And there stood the tall looming shadow of Jack, hands on either side of the doorframe, in jeans and a dark wet t-shirt that clung to his body. Water streamed down his beautiful face.
“For the love of shrimp n’ grits, girl,” I heard Jazz murmur next to me as we both took in the archangel standing on the threshold. “Good luck.”
            I shivered.

Excerpt:

It always starts like this. My vision starts to blur and the depth of the dirty brick walls plummets into a single plane, like I’m staring into an abyss that never ends. Pins and needles prick their way over my body and I fall backward, sinking through layers of sticky black sludge. I land with a thud and David is before me speaking urgently. His eyes are lined with confusion and anger.
“Piper, I don’t like what you’re doing. Please, for the sake of our mother and our friends, put an end to it now,” he says to me. We’re at our place in the mountains, the stars peering onto us like frail paper lanterns. I look at him seriously, my hand over my mouth, mind reeling at what he’d said.
“You don’t understand, David. I love him,” I reply, feeling tears brim my eyelids.
“… … ….” David’s lips are moving, but the noise coming out of his mouth is like raw static.
“I can’t hear you. What’s going on?” I ask. He looks like I just slapped him in the face.
“I can’t believe how selfish you are! “… … … ” He shouts, then comes the static again.
“David, I think there’s something wrong right now. I haven’t done anything!” I cry frantically, grabbing his shoulders and shaking him. He brushes me off and gives me a hard stare.
“People are going to get hurt, Piper. I need you to understand that!” he shouts.
“I don’t understand, David!” I plead, “How are people going to get hurt?”
I hear more static come from his mouth, but he doesn’t seem to notice, he just keeps talking, clearly thinking he’s telling me something important. Frantically, I look around for a clue as to what is going on. When I turn back to him, David’s face starts to deteriorate and his body fades away to dust.

Excerpt & Giveaway: Found by Stacey Wallace Benefiel

In celebration of Stacey Wallace Benefiel’s third Indieversary, FOUND (Penny Black #1) is only 99cents April 20-27!

Amazon          Barnes and Noble

From Stacey Wallace Benefiel, the author of the Zellie Wells trilogy, comes a new NA trilogy set in the Society world.

Penny Black hasn’t had it easy. Just about everything you’d expect to happen to a harassed foster-kid turned junkie has happened to Penny. Add in the mysterious power to rewind time, conducting events around her, and it’s a wonder she held up on the streets for so many years. Now, at seventeen, the New Society has found her. Finally, Penny is where she belongs. But that doesn’t stop the visions, or the need to protect the victims shown to her.

Wyatt Adams is excited and intrigued when his sister Melody assigns him to be Penny’s Lookout. Being the youngest, and hopelessly ordinary in the family that created the New Society, has left Wyatt feeling like he has a lot to prove -- and Penny is a big deal. She’s got abilities that surpass any he’s seen before…and pretty much every quality he looks for in a girlfriend, but no one needs to know about that, especially Penny.

*The Penny Black trilogy is a companion to the Zellie Wells trilogy and not a continuation of the series. (PBT is set 18 years in the future with a new cast of characters.)

*Due to language and sexuality, FOUND is recommended for older teens (Most of the
characters are out of high school and preparing for college.)*

Excerpt:

Ben Fontenot fits his Ret-tech onto his head, flips the microscreen down in front of his right eye, and continues cramming all of his and Christopher’s belongings into their suitcases. “Zellie Adams,” he says in a clear and clipped manner. He has two Zellies and a few Adams’ listed in his contacts and half the time his Ret either techs his daughter Zellie or adult Zellie’s husband, Avery. It makes him wonder why he ever got rid of his iPhone 23.
He is bent over, looking under the bed for his shoes – another thing he wonders about, after all of his years spent on the road, is why does he always misplace his shoes in motel rooms? --when Zellie answers.
“Beeeeeen. It’s early.”
He smiles as her image appears before his eye. Is that a pillow behind her head? She hasn’t even bothered to get out of bed. “Hey Doc,” he says, his smile growing wider. She rolls her eyes at him. Zellie hates it when he calls her Doc. He can’t help it. He’s excited. “You might want to sit up for this, I have some news.”
Zellie rocks back and forth, her long red hair working itself into a rat’s nest against the pillow. She is either trying to roll onto her side or fall out of bed…Ben isn’t sure which.
Finally, she says, “Avery, help me.”
Ben hears Avery chuckle and then sees him come into view above Zellie. He’s doing a crappy job of hiding his amusement over his pregnant wife’s predicament.
Zellie swats him on the arm. “Knock it off and help me up. It’s all your fault I’m ginormous, asshat.”
“Can you believe people come to her for advice?” Avery jokes to Ben as his face gets really close to Zellie’s, and then they are moving backward. “There, all better.”
Ben locates his shoes and sits on the bed, slipping his special edition hemp-fiber Chucks on. When he is sure that he has Zellie’s full attention, he takes a deep breath and says, “We’ve found her.”
“Penny Black? In DC?” Zellie asks, her voice going up an octave with each question.
“Yup.” Ben nods enthusiastically. He rights his Ret-tech. “Lookout Command sent us new video a few hours ago.” Ben moves his eyes across the microscreen, focuses on the video icon in the top left corner and blinks once, bringing up the latest clip for Zellie. “You’re not the only one who got a 5:00 a.m. wake up call.”
He waits while Zellie watches the clip of seventeen-year-old Penny Black, a Retroact who has managed to elude capture for the past seven years, as she pauses time and rewinds a twelve-car pile-up on Interstate 66 in Virginia.
Ben shakes his head, in awe. “She collapsed after that display of badassed-ness, which is consistent with all the intel Melody’s gathered. The Highway Patrol picked Penny up off the side of the road an hour later. They were completely unaware of what she’d done and how many lives she’d saved. The cops delivered her to a juvenile detention center twenty miles from here. Christopher’s on his way now to work his mind mojo.”
“Wow,” Zellie says. “She’s just…amazing. I don’t know how she’s made it this far on her own, Lookout-free, maybe not even knowing what she is. You and Christopher will be on a plane with her in the next couple hours, I assume?”
“Our flight for Cali leaves at eleven DC time. I can’t believe we found her right before the term begins. The Universe seems to be goosing me again.”
“You love it,” Zellie teases. “All right…” Ben can practically hear the gears in her shrink mind click into overdrive. “I’ll meet you at the Society School for an intake at three. We can put off the full psych eval for a few days.”
Ben grins, blinking to close the video and send it to its folder. “Hers or mine?”
Zellie snorts. “Dude, like you didn’t fail yours the second we met. I still love you, though.”
“Hey!” Avery says, from Zellie’s left. “Enough with the sweet nothings to Benji while you’re carrying my spawn.”
It’s Ben’s turn to snort. “Your spawn? Nice way to talk about your son, Adams. So, I guess that makes Zel some kind of reptile?”
“Seriously?” Zellie moans, her face moving toward a beaming Avery. She kisses him. “Boys, it’s been eighteen years. Get over it.”

Excerpt, Giveaway, & Interview: Alaskan Nights by Nadia Scrieva

Title: Alaskan Nights
Author: Nadia Scrieva
Publication:  April 2013
Genre: New Adult Contemporary

Synopsis:
When Brynne left Alaska, she promised herself she would never go back.

The day after graduation, she got in her beat-up Honda Civic and drove down the west coast to pursue her dream of becoming a Hollywood makeup artist. Growing up in a rural fishing village with dirty, rundown buildings, and dirty, rundown men, she longed for the glitz and glamour of the silver screen. She had no qualms about leaving behind her dysfunctional family and her nowhere-job at her mother's fishing tackle shop. She didn't even think twice about leaving behind the cute boy who came in to buy gear almost every day, shamelessly flirting with her and always leaving a generous tip. Well, maybe she thought about it twice; but she knew that a relationship with Callder Murphy would only be bound to lead her deeper into nowhere. She was sick and tired of being nowhere—and no one.

Brynne set out, determined to prove to the world that she was much more than just a fisherman’s daughter. Unfortunately, her luck and tip money ran out in Seattle when her car broke down. Exhausted from the stress of travel, she decided to take a waitressing job in the city for the time being. “For the time being” ended up being far longer than she would have liked. That was four years ago. Now, a call from home has alerted Brynne to some bad news. She needs to get back to Soldotna promptly, but she has been living paycheck to paycheck and can’t even afford a plane ticket home. Enter a ghost from her past as her knight in shining armor. Unexpectedly showing up outside her restaurant in a red Ferrari, Callder is determined to take her home with him, and keep her there for good.

* * *

Perpetually drunken playboy, Callder Murphy, is currently loaded. Of course, that’s only because he stole his big brother’s credit card. He was off in Vegas, doing what he does best (absolutely nothing) when he received the call from home. A name he hasn’t heard in years pulls him out of his mindless haze of stumbling from one wild party to the next: Brynne Ambrose needs his help. Pleasant memories of the rude, tomboyish, and completely adorable girl-next-door come rushing back to him with a vengeance. He drops all of his shenanigans and cleans up his act instantaneously. He uses his brother’s credit card to buy an impressive car, and sets out to win over the girl of his dreams. He knows he’s no good for her, but he can’t stay away.

Callder has been waiting his whole life for the opportunity to be her man, and he’s not going to let her slip away again.

Excerpt:
The tension in the car was thick. She felt the need to apologize, but she knew that no words would do the situation justice. She had abandoned and insulted Callder, but the moment that she had needed him, he had magically appeared to help her. She wanted desperately to make things right. Turning to her side, Brynne tried to force herself to speak. Instead, she leaned forward and pressed a kiss against Callder’s shoulder. She allowed her lips to linger there for a moment before turning her face to the side and resting her cheek against his bicep.
The sound of squealing brakes were heard as the car swerved suddenly into the unpaved shoulder. Brynne looked around in surprise, expecting to see an obstacle or dangerous situation on the road. But there was nothing around except the colors of the evening sky, which had  bathed the mountaintops with crimson light. She was startled when she felt Callder’s hand slip around the back of her neck, pulling her face against his. His lips mashed into hers with a demanding and unyielding pressure.
It was nothing like the silly, theatrical kiss that he had given her back at the café. It was a real and meaningful touch, filled with unmistakable intent. It was both chastising and forgiving, all at once. It was also angry. Increasingly angry.
“Why?” Callder asked between kisses. He leaned forward, crawling over the console in order to pin her against the car seat with his weight. “Why didn’t you take me with you?”
“Mmm?” Brynne asked, a bit lost in the unexpected intensity of his attack
“When you left,” he said, smashing his nose against hers as he cupped the back of her head. “Why didn’t you take me with you?”
“Mmm,” she responded, focusing on his mouth more than the question. “I guess… I didn’t think you would want to come with me.”
“I did,” he told her, in between kisses. He pressed a hand against her stomach, sliding his fingers up under her blouse.   “I would have gone anywhere with you.”
She paused and pushed him away slightly. “You never told me that. How was I supposed to know?”
“I’m not big on words, Brynne. But haven’t I always been by your side? Don’t my actions give you a clear picture of the way I feel?”
“No,” she whispered. “I need the words too.”
“Why?” he said, kissing her chin. “Why would you need me to say a bunch of unnecessary, mushy garbage…”
She hit him in the shoulder. “To differentiate me from the dozens of other girls you bang, just for the fun of it. To establish this as something real.”
“How can you not see that this is real to me?” he asked, almost offended by the accusation.
“I can’t see anything,” Brynne admitted. “I’m completely blind.”
Callder stared down at her in the fading dusk. “And if I told you—if I tried to find the words, would you even believe me?”
“Probably not,” she admitted.
He pulled away from her, moving back to the driver’s seat and starting up the car. “Then I’m not going to bother wasting my words.”
Brynne felt a sense of disappointment wash over her, along with a burst of righteous rage. “You shouldn’t,” she snapped at him. “If it’s not worth it to you, you really shouldn’t bother.”

Author Bio:
Nadia Scrieva lives in Toronto, Canada with no husband, no kids, and no pets. She does own a very attractive houseplant which she occasionally remembers to water between her all-consuming writing marathons.  Nadia has a degree in English and Anthropology from the University of Toronto. She likes knives. Her writing always features powerful females and (mostly) honorable male characters.  "Ms. Scrieva is clearly a very talented writer with a natural gift for weaving beautiful, sometimes lyrical prose that kept me entranced for hours." - Stacy Decker, Goodreads reviewer
Interview:
What inspired you to become a writer?
It seemed a natural progression from reading. Stories all seemed magical and perfect, but the moment I became dissatisfied with a children’s book, I began to think I could do it better and needed to try!

When did you attempt your first story?
What length was it? What's become of it? I wrote my first story at age 6, and I still have it in a box of old mementos. It is safely tucked away with the stories I wrote at 7 and 8, and each was progressively longer. Ten pages, twenty pages, and hundreds of pages by the time I was ten.

How many stories did you complete before you sold your first?
I wrote dozens of stories and uploaded them onto the internet for feedback. I didn’t want to sell a novel until I was certain that I was good enough to warrant doing so.

What’s your favorite genre of all to write in?
While experimenting in contemporary romance, I prefer to write fantasy/science fiction, because that is what I most enjoy reading and experiencing. I love escaping to worlds where more is possible. Bending the laws of physics is fun!

What is the best piece of writing advice you ever received?
The best advice is easy: Write. You can’t imagine how tedious and difficult it is to set aside thousands of hours to just sit in one spot and write, when there are so many other fun things and people I could be doing.

How do you deal with negative feedback?
By drinking myself into oblivion, of course! Alternatively, I do a carefully choreographed happy dance when I receive positive reviews.

Would you/have you own(ed) a snake or some other exotic pet?
Ideally, I’d love to have a dragon, but I would settle for a tiger.

Which do you prefer: rain or sun & warm weather or cold weather?
I enjoy the cold, because I love wearing fancy fur coats.

If you could live anywhere in the universe, where would it be and why?
Anywhere in the universe? Well, I would definitely choose somewhere off the planet, and I’d like to sample all the intergalactic hotspots carefully before making my decision. Ideally, a planet where they worship me and give me manservants.
