My thoughts:
I was so excited for this book, the audiobook to be exact. Echo left us on on huge cliffhanger that only this book could resolve. The library was not able to order the audiobook so I decided to read it. I realize now that I cannot stand the author's writing style. It was my problem all along. That is why the characters sound so annoying.
After the cliff hanger was resolved, it was really hard to continue on with the novel, but I managed. I felt this book was a bit weak compared to the others. There was plenty of action, but it felt like there was a lot going on and some of it was not resolved and we were rushed to the end. I believe the author will answer some of the remaining questions in the next book, maybe. I don't want to ruin the story line but, there is a part where a character has the potential to become possessed by demons, and I felt there was no need for that. We understood the urgency of that character's situation, and the whole possession bit could have been left out.
As always, I feel the storyline is what saves this novel. This novel does have some redeeming qualities. We are able to read from several different character's perspective. My favorite character is back and stronger than before- Xochitl. There is more drama and action than the others contained, but as I said it seemed a bit much. However, the storyline is great and I will read the final book that is supposed to come out in November.

See, that's how I felt with her Immortals series. The first two-three books were good, but then the last ones (except the sixth, I haven't read it yet) were a little dull. I have yet to read this series, but from the reviews I've read, including yours, they sound a bit better. :D

ReplyDeleteI also read/listened to and just didn't finish the Immortals series. I can understand how you feel. Hope you enjoy the next book.
ReplyDeleteGood review! I've read a few books where the story line was good but I just didn't like the author's writing style.
ReplyDeleteHmmm... I haven't really heard of this series. I don't know if I'll rush out to get it too soon based on your review, though.
ReplyDeleteGreat review!
ReplyDeleteI haven't started this series yet, but I have it and hope to start it soon.
I have had this happen with audio books as well. It is really annoying. Or when they change narrators
ReplyDeleteI haven't started this series yet and have been on the fence about it. I haven't read any of her books before actually, I'm not sure what's stopping me. I think if I come across it I will give it a go, but I don't think I'll go out of my way to read it :(
ReplyDeleteI haven't read this series, even though I have the first 2 books on my shelf. I might wait till all the books release before I start reading it.
ReplyDeleteI didn't enjoy the Immortals series when I got to the fourth book (the previous three were fine), but this series actually sounds interesting... I'm sorry it was hard for you to read through this though... I'll remember that I was warned before reading :P Great review!

Great Review! I really need to read this series! I do have the first two books which is good!
ReplyDeleteI have not heard of this book before, thanks for the review!
ReplyDeleteI just got my hands on the first book in this series and can't wait to get started! Great Review!!
ReplyDeleteI felt the same way about this book! The plot and pacing felt off the whole book for me, and I really only kept reading because I was invested in the characters from the first two books. But I'm hopeful the next book will redeem the series! :)
ReplyDeleteI really love the cover.. Thank you for the review ^^
ReplyDeleteI tried to read her Immortal series, now the first one was good but the second was so hard to finish and I can't even pick up the third to even try. The concept of all her series sound so good but when you get to her actual work it just doesn't seem to flow right. Like the story is trying to go off in so many different directions it doesn't know where to start or stop. I have been wanting to try this series but have hesitated. I think though that I just might pass. Thanks for the honest review.
ReplyDeleteI've heard of the author, but not the series. Anyway, I hate when that happens - when the series simply goes bad - especially if I liked the first few. Like with Rachel Vincent's Souls Screamers - I liked the first 3 book or so, and then things just got to be too much for my taste. Oh, well...
ReplyDeleteI have been wanting to read this book. I absolutely loved the Immortal series by Alyson Noel and loved it. I would love to see what this series is like. It always seems like some of the middle books in a series seem to get tedious. Sophomore slump as I have heard Christina @ A Reader of Fictions say. Hopefully the next installment is even better.
ReplyDeleteI really love Alyson Noel and this series sounds so good. I haven't gotten the chance to read it yet, but your review makes me very interested :)
ReplyDelete-Amber Terry-

ReplyDelete-Amber Terry-
I haven't read this series before, but it looks really good. I read the Immortal series by her which I really enjoyed. I love the cover of this book though. Good review though, sorry to hear you didn't like it a lot.
ReplyDeleteI haven't gotten a chance to check out any of her books but they sound good
