Summary
Valerie always wanted to be the smart girl. The pretty girl. The popular girl.

But not the rape girl.

That’s who she is now. Rape Girl. Because everyone seems to think they know the truth about what happened with Adam that day, and they don’t think Valerie’s telling it.

Before, she had a best friend, a crush, and a close-knit family. After, she has a court case, a support group, and a house full of strangers.

The real truth is, nothing will ever be the same.

Rape Girl is the compelling story of a survivor who does the right thing and suffers for it. It is also the story of a young woman’s struggle to find the strength to fight back.

My Thoughts: What would you do if you were violated, your best-friend doesn't believe you, and you almost feel that your the one who's lying? Valerie is faced with answering these questions. This was a very emotional read. I found myself in tears and going threw every stage of grief right along with Valerie. Valerie has a party while her mom is out of town for the weekend. Valerie doesn't think about the consequences; it's just going to be a little party with some dancing and drinking. Valerie ends up drunk, puking on the boy she has a crush on and passing out. Next day he returns to, as he puts it, finish what they started. After suffering threw the pain on her own Valerie tells her mother what happened. Everything proceeds as I would have expected, police called, rape kit performed, the whole school finds out. What didn't happen is Valerie's best friend, Mimi, being there for her and supporting her threw everything. Its amazing how cruel people can be to one another even those we've called friend. With the help of an unsuspected friend, Valerie begins to learn how to survive and I know it will be a daily challenge for her.

On a side note. A portion of the proceeds form Rape Girl will go to Pandora's Project and RAINN. This book is currently apart of amazon's 4 for 3 deal so go pick it up along with 3 more of your favorites.

  1. This is so sad! Hopefully this isn't based on a true story.

    1. No, this is not based on a true story but the author was a victim of rape.

  2. Awww! How incredibly sad. I don't think I could actually read this book. It sounds a bit like Speak and it reminds me a bit of Gods in Alabama, but mostly Speak. I hope the ending is a bit happier where she learns she has survived and can and will carry on with her life.

  3. This sounds good and a sad. Don't you hats it when authors treat as nothing more than something to keep the story interesting with no real consequences.?

  4. Thanks for your review :)
This book has been on my TBR list. In cases such as these, it's like the victim is traumatized over and over again. First, when she is raped, then when she reports it, and finally, when her friends and/or family members don't believe her. The rapist wears a mask of respectability and such tormentors are the most dangerous of all.
