Thoughts: Yes, I’m going to be the person to review Twilight. I read
this book when it first came out in 2005. I was 15 years old and hated books.
My friend recommended it to me, so I thought “meh, why not?” After reading I
was hooked, everything was about Twilight. I tried to get my friends to read
it, I couldn’t wait for the next book to come out, yadda yadda yadda.
I just picked up the book last week to re-read it and my
view altered. I thought to myself “what changed? I loved this book!” Bella is
whiney while Edward is conflicted and it goes on for more than half the book.
The reason why most adults don’t like Twilight is because of the target
audience. It still baffles me how I can change from loving a book to not want
it in my hands again. Then again, I did re-read the fourth book and liked it.
So let’s not get too hasty. I also saw every Twilight movie on its midnight
release. Hey, it was a tween favorite of mine. *Shrugs*
The reason why I’m
writing this review is to be on both sides. Twilight is a good read for girls
that are into drama and conflicted love, and women who like to kill time. No,
it doesn’t have the best writing. No, it doesn’t have strong characters. Yes,
some of Bellas actions are extremely confusing. Yes, the vampires sparkle. This
being said: if you’re iffy about reading the book, I think you should watch the
movie first because it goes by the plot line. If you like what you saw then
read it.

your answer. I’d like to hear your side. What appeals Twilight to adults and
children? What doesn’t?
I must agree with you for this. I was 15 when I first read this story and I was amazed. It was different and new to me. Now after all these years and books I see a lot of things that I don't like. I guess that's how it's meant to be. :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. I devoured them when I was younger, but thinking back on the books...they were just simply okay. They passed the time. I HATE the movies. I will say the second one was better than the first one. I have not seen the latest ones nor do I plan to really. I still have them all in hardback. Two of the books were gifts and the other two I had bought when they first came out. I'm not interested in keeping them anymore, and I keep seeing more and more copies come into used book stores.

ReplyDeleteI liked the first book the most. I had such a hard time getting through the fourth book. I didn't like it at all--it was so boring! Bella lies down on a couch while Jacob and his pack are guarding the periments for what seemed like 95% of the book, lol. I wasn't a huge fan of the movies, either. I think the story (except for the fourth book) is good, but the writing itself is pretty mediocre. I just happened to pick up the first book at a garage sale for $1, and that was before I knew there were going to be movies or anything. I had never heard of it before.
ReplyDeleteI went crazy for the series when it came out due to my girlfriends who recommended it to me. I actually finished the series in a week! But, I completely agree with you about the character Bella. Why, oh why would ANYONE find her remotely attractive with all the whining and indecision? Thanks for your review. It's always great to return to books again and see how you respond to them a second time.
ReplyDeleteI agree with a lot of what you said. I loved the books when I first read them. I think they were one of the first I had read in the YA paranormal genre. My aunt had recommended them to me long before the movie, saying they were like Harry Potter but with vampires. I disagree. I say if you want that, try House of Night or Vampire Academy (at least you get boarding school and some magic), but that's another story. Now years later, I still enjoy them, I just see their flaws. While the movies are far from award worthy (except maybe MTV), they are fun and it's tradition to go to the midnight releases or see them the first day.
ReplyDeleteI am always curious to see what people thought of Twilight. It is amazing the amount of high reviews and the amount of low reviews. Ho many hate it, and how many love it. I am actually one of the lovers of Twilight. Yes, yes I know. It has tons of issues. But I just love it. It is nothing more for me than a fun read that puts me in a great mood.
