Title: Dead to You

Genre: Young Adult
Audience: 14 and up

Summary
Ethan was abducted from his front yard when he was just seven years old. Now, at sixteen, he has returned to his family. It's a miracle... at first. Then the tensions start to build. His reintroduction to his old life isn't going smoothly, and his family is tearing apart all over again. If only Ethan could remember something, anything, about his life before, he'd be able to put the pieces back together. But there's something that keeping his memory blocked. Something unspeakable...

My Thoughts: I decided to read this story because I read Lisa McMann's Wake Trillogy and loved it. I thought, Lisa McMann is an awesome author so this book is going to be great. I was so right. This is a powerful and shocking story. I was drawn into Ethan's story. Ethan's parents and his sister embraced him with open arms. On the other hand, Blake, Ethan's brother, appeared to hate him.  The entire time I was reading this I found myself cheering for Ethan to remember something about his past so that his relationship with his brother could begin to develop. Blake went out of his way to make things hard for Ethan; from ignoring him, deliberately picking fights, to claiming that Ethan is not the real Ethan. Ethan's parents are overprotective and want to know where he is every second of the day. I was so excited when Ethan and Cami, childhood best-friend, reconnect and become love interest. Ethan's relationship with his sister Gracie is just precious and everything I would expect a relationship between a big brother and little sister to be like. The ending was shocking. I didn't want things to end like they did. I was faced with so many emotions and find myself trying to figure ways to change things for this family. I hope there is another book for this as I have a lot of questions.

  1. Is it one of those books that leave you wondering what's going to happen next? Sounds good, but you talk like it's an unhappy ending... I'm more of a "and they live happily ever after" person, lol.

  2. Yes, I was left wondering what will happen next. It is a great book but I need more so I can have closure. I am a "happily ever after" kinda of girl. I know that is not realistic but I live in the real world and want my fantasy world to be happy.

  3. It sounds interesting. I used to love the happily ever after and then the epilogue to Harry Potter and the ending the Twilight just was too sugary sweet. I like my questions to be answered, but lately I've been reading a series and I would have liked for the series to have ended two books ago. It was a perfect ending, questions and all. I really want to read it. I want to know what secret is blocking his memories. I love mysteries and that is the thing that always sells me on books. Why was he abducted? Is he the real Ethan? These questions drive me crazy and I need to know the answers.

    1. I think you would like this one Misty and it's up in the library so you have easy access to it. I would love to know what you think about it after you get a chance to read it.

  5. Sounds like an interesting read. I've heard alot about it, and a lot about the WAKE Trilogy that she wrote, but haven't gotten a chance to read it. Great review :)

  6. You know, I also read The Wake Trilogy and for the most part liked the series (I liked the first one the best; the other two books were okay). I thought about reading this one, but I've seen a lot of mixed reviews. Especially, as you said, with the ending that you're not sure about. I wonder if it's a series? Hm. I might consider reading this one. Lisa McMann is pretty awesome :)
    Thanks for the review!!!!

  7. Hmmm. . . this sounds like an intriguing read, but I am curious whether it will be part of a series or just a one time book with an ending like your hinting at. Like most people, I prefer HEA's, but can handle a book now and then without one, but what I don't want is a book that leaves me hanging.

  8. I loved the Wake trilogy too, but the ending of it didn't settle with me. It seems like the ending of this one might be the same way. I don't know if I am willing to put myself through it with another book until I know if there will be a sequel. Thanks for the warning, and thanks for the review!

  11. Thanks for the review, I'm also a fan of her Wake trilogy and wondered about this book. It's been on my TBR and not sure if it'll be on the top any time soon. Thanks for posting!

  12. I enjoyed this book a lot. But the ending kinda SUCKED. I mean I liked it but I need her to write another book or some kind of epilogue or something. I don't like books where I have to imagine the ending myself. Hopefully everyone can harass her to write a sequel. Thanks for sharing.
